Day 11: Marangu Falls

Today I got to go partway up Mt. Kilimanjaro to take a peak at Marangu Falls.  For a really cool 3D representation of the trip, go here.  The water fall was very pretty, and the view from off the mountain was spectacular.  I really wish they could invent a camera with a lens that was as good as the human eye (maybe if I had one of those big honking ones?), so that you could see what I could see.  I guess you'll just have to trust me when I say that they distant vista of the African plains was really cool.
I meat some travelers at the Falls, one of whom was from Wenatche, Washington!  The other two were from Germany.  There was also a Chagga cultural museum at the Falls, which was cool, as I am part Chagga and part Meru.  The Chagga are the "business men/merchants" of Tanzania, and their reputation is famous or infamous, depending on who you talk to.  I only speak with the ones who like the Chagga. :P
We had to cut our trip short in order to make it back for the Thursday night meeting at the Kingdom Hall.  The evening meetings are held early so that the Brothers and Sisters can get home before the Mosquitoes wake up.  Plus its not as safe to travel at night.  The book study and Bible Highlights were held in English, which was nice.  Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to go see the other fall and look at some other stuff.  Until then...

  1. I like your style of writting Tate! I wish you had time to go up to the first hut on Kilimanjaro, Mandara hut! Encourage those coming after you to do that. Best wishes in your "Explorations"
