I first just want to make it perfectly clear that nothing interesting happened today. No Tanzanian Adventure. Still reading? Well alright, I'll tell you what did happen. Actually, one slightly interesting thing did happen, I discovered that I was lied to by my Irish Ancestors. But you're probably not interested in that. Today Baba and I went to the Sunday meeting at the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. It was in Swahili, of course, but that didn't stop me from giving a brief comment in Swahili. I also had my English Watchtower, so I wasn't completely lost.
The Kingdom Hall was very simple, with lots and lots of windows, all of which were open. The audience mike, interestingly enough, was wireless. The most surprising part however, was the songs. Yes, the Brothers and Sisters sang beautifully (and as loud as me, must be where I get it from). It was the songs that they were singing, however, that were of note. They were still using the old song book. Evidently they had not yet received the new songs on CD (nor do they have a CD player). Thus I got to sing some great old songs from the old song book in Swahili, which wasn't something that I expected to get to do.
After the meeting I went back to Uncle's house and said good bye to Nina, who was leaving for boarding school. The school isn't all that far from Uncle Tereveli's house, in fact, its along the route into town. However all the students are required to stay there the entire time school is in session, so we won't be seeing Nina again until the very end of March. Schools in Tanzania have become businesses, competing for the best brains to get them the most money. The school Nina goes to is very good, and thus very exclusive and expensive, and very strict. The students there must do the best, which is partly why it's a boarding school, to control every aspect of learning. I'm glad I never went to a boarding school, but I hope Nina does well, as she has in the past.
Hope you all are having as much fun as me!
